Standing Egg – Korean Indie Band 스탠딩 에그

by Min

Standing Egg – Korean Indie Band  스탠딩 에그

Ok… I finally found another Korean Indie band whom I like enough to write about in my blog.

For those who have been looking for Korean Indie music, hope you like this group!

Standing Egg - Korean Indie group 스탠딩에그

Who is Standing Egg?

I’ve done some research, however, there are not much news or interviews out there although it’s been a while that they first debuted and have released many songs. This is official information from Naver.com.

Name: Standing Egg

Debut: 2010

Members: Egg #1, Egg #2, Egg #3 (It’s funny how they name themselves instead of each name.)

Style: Acoustic

Standing Egg - Korean Indie group 스탠딩에그

They write their own songs and lyrics and have been collaborating with other singer-songwriters in Korea.

This band is in pursuit of  making easy-listening and pure(?) music. It may be as difficult as try to make eggs stand (I guess that’s where the band name came from??) for them to make great music with best quality sound as well as with pure sentiments/feelings in this world which is full of electronic sounds and flash techniques without real feelings. Standing Eggs say that this is a very difficult dream to achieve but this is their challenge and they will keep this philosophy.

Ok… I’ve been listening to their music a lot recently and it was quite difficult to pick top 3, but here’s my fav top 3 songs.  Their songs are all so soothing and easy-listening. Hope you like them, too! Please do check out their other songs.

#1. 넌 이별 난 아직

#2.  시간이 달라서

#3. 햇살이 아파

My Top 3 Favorite G-Dragon Songs

by Min

I’m sure there are millions of G Dragon fans out there. I’m no longer so crazy about K POP bands, but I’d like to share my top 3 favoriate GD’s songs for those who do not know much about G-Dragon or Big Bang. Or for those who are interested in KPOP but who find it too overwhelming to decide which songs to listen to.

#1. This Love

I recall this song was in Big Bang’s first Album. Yes, it’s a GD’s version of Maroon 5′s ‘This love’. GD looks so cute and innocent here. (He drinks milk in this music video! How cute is that! haha)

English subtitled version

#2. A Boy 소년이여

This song is my favorite song among GD’s first solo Album. His title song was ‘Heartbreaker’ but somehow this song ‘A Boy’ is my favorite song. As you can see from English lyrics below, this song is about his journey to be a singer/dancer/artist since he joined YG Entertainment at age of 13. This song depicts what he went through, his pressure and his loneliness.

English Subtitled version

#3. That “XX” 그 XX

This song was released in August 2012, and I quite like it. Now in this Music video, G-Dragon looks cool but has so many tattoos which I find it a bit too much. Although G-Dragon is a fashion icon in Korea, but sometimes I find him too much or went too far.

About the title of the song, That ‘XX’ (그 XX), basically, it should write  그 새끼 (Geu Se Kki) which means ‘That Bastard’. But in Korean broadcasting system regulations do not allow publicly say or write ‘bastard’ or ‘bitch’ in Korean. So, in public forums or online bbs, people found a different way to write those slangs, so they replaced with ‘XX’. Most of young Korean people would know what XX means if it’s used as 나쁜 XX or  나쁜 X. 나쁜 XX (Na Bbeun XX means bad bastard) and 나쁜 X (Na bbeun X means bad bitch). As you can hear,  it’s replaced as ‘Beep’ in the song.

5 Korean Duet Love Songs

by Min

5 Korean Duet Love Songs

Here is my pick for 5 Korean Duet Love songs… I’d like to share my favorite Korean songs with you and introduce some Korean songs that you may not have heard before.

So, in this post, it’s about ‘Duet Song’. There are many Korean duet songs I like, however, I have just picked 5 that I have been listening to recently.

1. I need you – Huh Gak & Zia (허각 & 지아)

Huk Gak is the winner of SuperStar K Season 2 in 2010. It’s acoustic R&B style and I really like this song.

Korean Duet Love song - I need you- Huh Gak Zia

2. Love Day 러브데이- Yoseob & Eunji (요섭 & 은지)

Cute & Bright song. I love the part ” Mah ni Mah ni Jo Ah he”!

Korean Duet Love song - Love day Yoseob Eunji

3. If I have a lover 애인이 생기면 하고 싶은 일 – G.Na & Rain (지나 & 비)

This song has been a while, however, I love the cute lyrics.

Korean Duet Love song - If I want a lover GNa Rain

4. All For you 올포유 – Eun Ji & In Gook ( 정은지 & 서인국)

This song, ‘All For You’ was released more than 10 years ago. I remember listening to this song when I was in high school. Thanks to the hit Korean drama “Reply 1997″ in 2012, the couple of this drama, Eunji & In Gook (both are singers) did a remake of this famous song. The original version of “All For You” by group ‘Cool’ is a bit sad feeling, but this version is bright and happy.

Korean duet love song- all for you-Eunji InGook

5. My Valentine 마이 발렌타인 – Nichkhun & Taec Yeon (닉쿤 & 택연)

Korean Duet Love song - My Valentine - Nichkun TaecYeon

Ok.. I admit that I’m a bit slow in following up with the newest Korean Idols or KPOP. I’d say that I prefer Korean Indies or Classic Kpops. This song must be already famous and popular among KPOP  fans, especially 2PM fans (I like Nichkhun!!), but I found this song recently. It’s a great catchy song.

I hope you like my picks!:)

Busker Busker – Cherry Blossom Ending

by Min

Busker Busker – Cherry Blossom Ending 버스커 버스커 – 벚꽃엔딩

This song, ‘Cherry Blossom Ending’ was very popular in Korea in spring 2012. The song title itself sounds romantic to me and it reminds me of Korea’s Cherry blossom roads in spring.

About ‘Busker Busker’

Busker Busker is a new Korean band who debuted through SuperStar K Season 3, Korean audition program like American Idol. This band did not win the 1st prize, but got up to Top 3. Soon after the SuperStar K3 was over, Busker Busker released their first album and it became a big hit in Korea.

About the song ‘ Cherry Blossom Ending’

Although the title says “ending”, the lyrics through the song is pretty much about ‘Let’s walk this road, hand in hand, under this scattering beautiful cherry blossom petals”. How romantic is that!

Here is the official music video!

This one is their live performance. Enjoy!

Korean Love Song – Best Wedding / Proposal Songs

by Min

Top 5 Best Korean Wedding / Proposal Songs

There are many lovely wedding songs in Korea. But here is the list of my own pick of Wedding or Proposal songs.

#1  Proposal 청혼 by Noel 노을

Yes, this is the best song! Lyrics are sweet!

#2 Miracle 기적 by Kim Dong Ryul, Lee So Eun 김동률, 이소은

This song was sung on my sister’s wedding. It’s a duet song and it’s not an easy song to sing, but the lyrics is lovely and really great for wedding! At the moment, I can’t find any translated version MV on YouTube. This song will be my next song to translate!

# 3 Nothing better by Jeong Yup 정엽

This song is such a beautiful song and I remember I kept repeating this song when I first heard this. It would be so romantic if the groom sings this song for the bride on wedding day. I heard many of Korean grooms now sing this song playing the piano. ‘Nothing better’ has been sung by many other singers including Nichkuhn of 2pm.

#4 It’s Fortunate 다행이다 by Lee Juk 이적

This song became really popular as a wedding song in Korea after Lee Juk, the singer, told that he actually wrote this song to propose his then-girlfriend (now his wife), and he sang this song over the phone for her who was studying in the U.S that time. How romantic is that! The song is about how he’s fortunate or he’s really glad that he has “you”.  Perfect song for Weddings!

#5 With you 그대랑 by Lee Juk 이적

This is another Lee Juk’s song. It’s a rock-style song with fast beat. I love this song! Whenever I listen to this, I get to imagine when someone sings this song for me and imagine myself how happy and excited I will be about the future that he’s asking to go with you. :)

Korean Love Song – Proposal by Noel

by Min

Proposal by Noel (청혼 by 노을)

This song is my all-time favorite since this song was released back in 2004. I loved the lyrics as long as the harmony that Noel makes. I still remember that this song was my ringtone for quite a long time in 2004.

This is a popular wedding song in Korean wedding and many other Korean singers (including 2AM) have sung this song. But I think that Noel version is the best. I loved this song and I do hope that someone will sing this song for me in my wedding. (who knows when but having this song on my wedding is one of my wishlist!)

As you will know after hearing this song, especially the live performance clip, Noel’s harmony is amazing. Simply amazing. Among all Korean singers or bands, I personally think that anyone whose live performance is better than CD (Recorded version) would be only two. One is ‘Brown Eyed Soul’ and this ‘Noel’.

Lyrics are sweet and I’ve translated it in English so that more people can enjoy this song.

Please check out below video for their Live performance. Simply amazing!

Enjoy!!!

by Min

Gratitude (감사) – Lee SeokHoon (이석훈) Feat. SoHyang (소향)

It was in my flight back to Singapore when I first heard this song. I was watching ‘the Sketchbook’ program, a popular Korean music show, and Lee SeokHoon & SoHyang were singing this song Live. I was hooked up with this song since then. It is a great love song to sing in weddings.

Here is the live performance of Lee SeokHoon & SoHyang.

Korean Love Song – I’m in Love by Narsha

by Min

I’m in Love by Narsha

I love this song and I’ve always wanted to share this song and the lyrics with people.  This song was originally sung by a Korean male singer, Ra.D, but I prefer Narsha’s version and I think her voice made this song more beautiful.

Before I met my boyfriend, whenever I listened to this song, I always imagined myself being in Love with someone I wanted. (Someone like George Clooney or Daniel Henny.. haha ;) ).  After a while, my boyfriend showed up in my life and I’m feeling the same way just like this song.

Lyrics was translated by me in this video and at the bottom, it is the Korean lyrics.

* I’m in love , I’m fall in love
두렵진 않네요 그대와 함께라면
세상은 너무 아름답죠

I thought I never gonna fall in love
But I’m in love
Cuz I wanna love you baby

사실은 첨 봤을 때 부터 내 맘속으로 부터
그댄 파도처럼 밀려 들어 온통 하루 종일 그대만 떠올려
I can be a good lover Wanna be your 네잎clover
세상에서 가장 행복한 여자가 된 것만 같아요

그댄 gotta believe me
Make you never gonna leave me
의심하진 않을래요 그댈 믿을께요

* repeat

그대는 너무 아름답죠
