Tae Yang (T. Park) 태양 – Korean Celebrity Hair Designer – Part 1
Finding a perfect Hair Designer…
As a woman, I know how difficult it is to find a great hair stylist who understands your style, your taste, and your mood at a glimpse without much telling him/her in detail… and how frustrating it is when the result turns out to be not quite what you wanted, costing you a fortune… yes… i know.. I’ve been there, done that. So far, I have not found any hair designer that I like in Singapore, it may be due to the language or a different style… so whenever I go back to Korea, the first thing I do is to go to a hair Salon.
Yes, after many years of searching….Finally, I found ‘THE ONE’ !!
His name is Tae Yang, and he’s a celebrity hair designer in Korea.
I was watching a Cable TV makeover show, ‘Fashion of Cry Season 2′ in Korea one night, and a new hairstyle that this lady was transformed to… was something exactly what I wanted. Tae Yang was in the show, explaining what he did to her hair. I knew that moment that I needed to make an appointment with him.

Briefly his profile is…
He worked at Gavert Atelier in Beverly Hills and he did Reese Witherspoon, Liv Taylor, and many Hollywood celebrities and models, etc. He came back to Korea and his clientele is mostly Korean actresses and models, recently, Kim Hyesoo, Han Hyoju, and Kim Sarang, etc. Here is the link to his blog.
Of course, I was worried. He’s a celebrity hair designer who regularly shows up on TV and I heard from friends that perm in Cheongdam hair salons can easily cost up to USD 500. But I really wanted to try, maybe as ‘once in my life time experience’, to let the Celebrity hair stylist do my hair.
At that time, I had a long straight hair, dyed in dark brown which i thought it would make my face brighter.
I searched the web to find him and he was working at Jenny House in Apgujeong. I made an appointment with him.
My First Visit
It was a bit weird that the person that I saw on TV is doing my hair, but he was nice and friendly and I told him my requirements.
- Easy to manage: sometimes i don’t even bother blow-drying my hair. I’m clumsy in styling my hair.
- Voluminous on top of my hair : my naturally straight hair drags down the whole hair.
- Long lasting style : I won’t be able to come back to hair salon for almost 6 months.
First, he asked what kind of style i want and i told him about the hairstyle in the TV show. He agreed that it would look good on me, however, he suggested to cut my hair shorter like shoulder length and suggested to change the color to more to reddish brown as my hair color made my face look more yellow than my skin color. He recommended me to try Rose Brown. I was afraid to try an adventure to cut short despite he’s a famous one… so I decided to perm and color change as the style I wanted from TV show.
And He did the MAGIC! and here was the final product…
I would not write this post and recommend Tae Yang if the hair style just turned out what I wanted.
The pleasure of finding THE ONE came later.
What I loved about…
With my new hair, some of my friends commented, “Your face look fairer, did you change your foundation?” “Did you lose your weight? Your face looks smaller.” Just a hair style change could do this.
Another reason is…. I’m sure girls with naturally straight hair know, after 1-2 months when you did a perm, newly grown hair on the top of your hair is hanging flat while the rest of your hair is very wavy. After a while, it looks quite funny that 1/3 of your hair is flat while the rest is wavy. This was why I always did a ‘Volume perm’ for my top part. But still after some time, it still looks flat. You may not believe it, but I think Tae Yang’s cut solved this. After 2 months, it became more voluminous wavy on top. I was pleasantly surprised as it never happened with any of other hair stylists. I thought the money was well spent and I got to understand the true value of Tae Yang’s cut. I didn’t have to blow dry heavily on top of my hair to get more volume any more. So easy to manage and so voluminous as what I wanted
In Part 2, I will write about my new short hair!
